If you're using a home automation hub to control things like lighting and thermostats, you can add a Z Wave or Zigbee smart lock to the system without much effort. Alternately, if you don't have a home automation hub, look for a Wi Fi or Bluetooth lock that comes with its own mobile app. Smart locks use standard pre drilled holes and are fairly easy to install. Some models use your existing keyed cylinder and deadbolt hardware and attach to the inside of your door, while others require that you remove your existing interior and exterior escutcheons and replace the deadbolt and strike hardware. Smart locks can be opened and closed using a mobile app and will send a notification when someone locks or unlocks a door, and most allow you to create permanent and temporary access schedules for family members and friends based on specific hours of the day and days of the week. Features to look for include geofencing, which uses your phone's location services to lock and unlock the door, voice activation using Siri HomeKit, Google Assistant, or Amazon Alexa voice commands, support for IFTTT, and integration with other smart home devices such as video doorbells, outdoor cameras, thermostats, smoke alarms, and connected lighting. alarm systems houston

I’d highly recommend Alfred to anyone with a need to monitor their pet. Also, the motion detection feature along with instant notifications to your phone make it a solid choice for baby and house monitoring as well. I have used this app off and on for almost two years. I don’t like the recent upgrades that limited the amount of time movement is recorded. The app used to stop recording at a certain point and pick right back up because it defected there was still movement, not any more. The kids can leave the view of the camera, it stops recording but does not pick them back up when the walk back into the view of the camera, they made it through the living room into the kitchen. Both rooms are in the view. This was not just once, it’s a lot. Many times it will pick up a person walking in OR out of view BUT it dies not catch both. I have Alfred set up on a tablet that is next to the router and always plugged in charging, I’m not sure why I get logged out so often and it takes forever to get logged back in. The Alfred app was better and more reliable before all of these changes.
